De padre madrileño y madre cántabra, Carlos Orive Somavilla nace en Madrid (España) en abril de 1966.
CARL.O.S. empieza en el mundo del arte a través de la fotografía, a la temprana edad de doce años, en un taller especializado en el colegio donde cursaba sus estudios primarios.

Su formación en pintura es autodidacta. Desde hace 20 años viene trabajado en el desarrollo de una técnica, la Pigmentografía, que se basa en la fusión de fotografía, pintura e informática sobre el lienzo, sin usar collage y sin pintar sobre las fotografías. Esta técnica ha sido perfeccionada desde sus principios cuando trabajaba con la transferencia de fotocopias de originales trabajados por él con la cámara, la pintura y la computadora a la tela mediante presion y calor.

With parentage from Madrid and Cantabria Carlos Orive Somavilla was born in Madrid (Spain) in April 66. CARL.O.S., discovers art via photography at the age of 12 in a workshop at school.

His painting is self taught. For the last 20 years he has been developing a technique, Pigmentography, that fusions photography, paint and he has been working on the development of Pigmentography a technique that fusions photography, painting and IT on canvas but with no collage or painting over the photographs. At the beginning originals were tampered with by him with his camera, painted over them or edited by computer and were transferred to the fabric via photocopies applied with both heat and pressure.
